dualStacks.jpgAfter operating for almost 80 years, the old Durango powerhouse sat idle and vacant for nearly two decades, the result of environmental contamination on the site.

Powerhouse Early Days

After the City of Durango decided to purchase the powerhouse, the cost of renovation and remediation thwarted several efforts to create an effective use for the site, despite its value to the community as a historical, riverfront property.

It was not until several community organizations partnered together to restore and revitalize the property that the powerhouse evolved from a community liability to an asset.

This page documents the journey of this historic, once-beautiful but severely neglected property that in 2011 returned to glory and again became a community and regional jewel.
