Dr. Randy Emmons: Robotics

To kick off what we hope will be a monthly speaker series, we're pleased to welcome esteemed robotics expert, Dr. Randy Emmons, director of the Zacheis Planetarium and Observatory in Alamosa on March 23, 2011.

In the past decade, technological advances have resulted in huge breakthroughs in robotics. Come explore this fast-paced field with us and ask yourself: Has the time come when humans will build machines that not only match but surpass human intelligence?

Join us Wednesday, March 23, when our first Mensch Spark Shop guest scientist, Dr. Emmons (pictured with his daughter Lindsey), will offer a full-day workshop on robotics (think blinking LEDs, motors, sensors, and servos).

The event schedule includes:

▪ 1-4pm: Exchanging ideas, answering questions, and exploring new possibilities. (This is a great time to pick Dr. Emmons' human brain.) Free.

▪ 4-5pm: Take a quick look at small autonomous robots during this high-voltage presentation. Free.

▪ 5:30-8pm: Practice what you've just learned. Put into action some basics of microcontroller programming and more. FREE!

Experience with electronics or programming are not necessary—and ALL AGES ARE INVITED.
