Bio: Dr. Randy Emmons
Randy Emmons is the director of the Zacheis Planetarium and Observatory in Alamosa. He is also devoted to promoting robotics education and advancing informal science education. Working in collaboration with Colorado Space Grant Consortium/NASA, Dr. Emmons is responsible for the Colorado Robot Challenge, now in its fifth year. The project, involving 20 teams from universities and colleges in the western states, develops small autonomous robots capable of planetary exploration. Dr. Emmons received his Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics.
To kick off what we hope will be a monthly speaker series, we're pleased to welcome esteemed robotics expert, Dr. Randy Emmons, director of the Zacheis Planetarium and Observatory in Alamosa on March 23, 2011.
Robotics: Wednesday, March 23, 1-8pmIn the past decade, technological advances have resulted in huge breakthroughs in robotics. Come explore this fast-paced field with us and ask yourself: Has the time come when humans will build machines that not only match but surpass human intelligence?

▪ 1-4pm: Exchanging ideas, answering questions, and exploring new possibilities. (This is a great time to pick Dr. Emmons' human brain.) Free.
▪ 4-5pm: Take a quick look at small autonomous robots during this high-voltage presentation. Free.
▪ 5:30-8pm: Practice what you've just learned. Put into action some basics of microcontroller programming and more. FREE!
Experience with electronics or programming are not necessary—and ALL AGES ARE INVITED.
