1. Discov-a-goo (ages 4+): Is it a liquid or a solid? Experiment with this amazing and mysterious slime and discover the answer.

 2. Volcanoes (ages 5+): Flowing, oozing, exploding! Create a variety of different volcanoes and watch them glow and gush before your eyes.

 3. Marshmallow monuments and fractal forms (ages 7+): Can you make a stable structure using only toothpicks and marshmallows? Find out what shapes architects and engineers use to make buildings strong.

 4. Taste buds (ages 7+): Put on your lab coat, stick out your tongue, and discover the delicious biology behind your taste buds.

Birthday Parties

All About Birthday Parties @ "The Pow" (aka The Powerhouse) 

• Celebrate your child's special day along the Animas River at the Durango Discovery Museum.
• Enjoy your food and cake in our party room for up to 90 minutes.
• The Little Bang birthday party option includes a high-wow, 15-minute science demo. (See below.)
• The Big Bang birthday party option includes an exciting, 30-minute, hands-on science activity that's led by our enthusiastic mad scientists with the Big Bang birthday party option. (See below and right sidebar.)
• Note: There are no science demos or science activities with the Baby Bang party option.  Include Museum admission for 20 people total.
• Give a sciencey goodie bag - they’re just $5 each.
• These DDM birthday party packages are targeted at budding scientists ages 4-14.  We recommend a facility rental for adult parties.
• Always a 10% discount on party prices for museum members!

TIP: We recommend booking your party at least four-six weeks in advance—spaces fill quickly. Reserve online or call a Museum Visitor Tech at (970) 259-9234.

Birthday parties at the museum come in a variety of cosmic flavors. Check out the details now!

Additional guests may be added at the group rate of $7 per guest. Maximum occupancy is 40 people.

Prior to the Party

The party fee is due when you book your party. Cancellations must be made three weeks prior to your booking to receive a full refund. A 50% refund will be granted if you cancel the party 2–3 weeks prior to your party date. No refunds are given for parties cancelled within two weeks of event date.

At the Discovery Museum

You are welcome to arrive 30 minutes in advance of your party to decorate the party room. Decorations for your party may include banners, signs, streamers, centerpieces, and tablecloths. Unfortunately, helium-filled balloons, glitter, confetti, and piñatas are not allowed. A birthday party coordinator will meet you in the Multi-Purpose Room area, located adjacent to the Education Center lobby.

Since the party rooms are used as classrooms, we ask that they be left in the same condition you found them. We cannot store party supplies.

Food may be delivered to the museum for your party, but all food deliveries must be accepted and paid for at the Education Center by an adult from your group. The museum staff is not permitted to handle your money or accept food deliveries. Food and drink must stay in the party room; they are not allowed on the museum floor. Smoking and alcohol are not permitted anywhere in the museum or party room. A refrigerator is available.
