Stage Demonstrations

"WOW! @ The POW!" is Durango Discovery Museum's new live stage demonstration program.

These demonstrations will investigate different scientific principles in eye-popping, jaw-dropping, mind-expanding, high energy ways; thus proving that science is not only educational but captivating, thrilling, and entertaining as well.

Make sure, while planning your visit, to check the upcoming "WOW! @ The POW!" schedule to view current demonstrations and show times. These demonstrations are FREE this month with paid admission to the museum, though donations are appreciated. Don't miss out on these incredible opportunities to learn and be amazed!

WHAT'S ON NOW...

FIRE FRENZY!

Come join the museum's newest Mad Scientist, Jupiter Jared, in the HOTTEST demonstration this side of the sun: Fire Frenzy! Learn and explore the fire triangle--oxygen, heat, and fuel-- first-hand by witnessing gigantic fire balls, flaming vortexes and flame deterent money. This demo is sure to ignite the inner Mad Scientist in visitors of all ages!

Tesla's Legacy

Rumor has it that the great inventor and developer of AC electricity, Nikola Tesla, visited Durango and the POW before it opened as a powerhouse in 1893.  Over 100 years later, prepare to be wow-ed as bulbs light up from across the table and shocked in every sense of the word as Mad Scientist, John, fires up a radio tesla coil.

Pinball Science!

Really, how many times a day do you double click, press buttons and scroll down on your cell phones, computers, I-pods and video games?  As it turns out, it’s NOT magic!  Pinball wizard and software handyman, Peter Larsen, will lead us as we explore the science behind pushing buttons and flipping switches…

Engineering Energy

WARNING: this demonstration will be EXPLOSIVE!

Join Jupiter Jared as he investigates the science of the explosiv-icity of different fuel types. Explore the evolving science of energy production by using your eyes--and your ears--to see how traditional fuels compare with the new era of energy. Come get a glimpse into the design of alternative fuels sources in this teeth-rattling, ear-popping demonstration.
